Where we work
Tactical Tech's activities predominantly focus on Africa, Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East. We have a limited number of projects which also reach out to Central and Latin America.
Tactical Tech has an established and widespread network of non-profit technology actors based in these five regions. We have long-standing experience working in developing and transition countries, in particular in 'difficult' situations where advocates are handling sensitive information and working within environments with restricted infrastructure.
As rights-issues in the global South become increasingly interlinked with the global North, Tactical Tech is beginning to take steps to work with a small number of groups in the global North. This is specifically directed at instances where new technologies have the potential to improve co-ordination with groups in the global south, and ensure that the marginalised communities they are campaigning for participate in processes that are designed to help them.
Very few of Tactical Tech's projects focus on one country, mainly we engage in regional or global projects. This is because we believe that it is at the 'aggregate' level, where we can add significant value. If working at a country-level we always partner with established NGO-technology practitioners and organisations, on the ground, who know the locale in-depth and can provide longer-term support.
